It’s that time again folks! The third issue of the excellent vis/res microzine is now available to order - http://visr.es.

We also worked together on a new website for Digital Outreach, a scheme that delivers information campaigns to marginalised or potentially vulnerable people across the UK:

Chillisauce are an events management team based in london, who have a relaxed, quirky attitude towards their work. They asked me to redesign their addchillisauce website based around a series of bold and playful illustrations to reflect the ethos of the business. I had a great time working on both the illustrations and the design elements of the project simultaneously – I really felt like I learnt a lot about how both processes can influence each other in pretty surprising ways!

My starting point was an existing logo, which used a solid blocky typeface and a bright red/orange colour scheme. This had a big influence on the final style of the illustrations, which I hope will sit along side the logo as a natural extension of the brand.

For the website, I aimed for something a little more subtle – trying to avoid anything too boxy or cramped and using a light grey/red colour scheme. It was also a great opportunity to expand both my knowledge of jQuery (javascript library) and using WordPress as a fully fledged management system as opposed to just a blogging platform! Phew! It’s been a long time in development, but I’m pleased to finally tell you all about my latest project: working on the design and development for Riot Magazine, a new online publication catering towards the alternative indie/rock music scene (as well as interesting features and news from across the web).

I had a huge amount of fun experimenting with a crisp and subtle interface that would allow the content to expand and speak for itself. This was also a great opportunity to learn more about using WordPress as a fully fledged publishing platform – it really is a versatile system with a lot of great features!

I’m excited to announce that the second issue of vis/res is now available to order! Yet again expertly designed and curated by my friend Craig Matchett (supernovi.co.uk), issue 2 aims to expand upon the established format and features contributions by 10 fantastic designers and illustrators.
